Our Beaver Bay is a thriving community on the western side of Lake Huron in Michigan. A rail link over the Mackinaw Straits provides a connection to Canada’s rail system and the Duluth and Ironton, over which the B.B.R.R. has running rights. The harbour allows all sorts of traffic to be transhipped from water to rail and vice-versa. A car float connects to other similar facilities in the area. The waterfront is now crowded with industry and warehouses, keeping freight traffic busy. The lighthouse has been automated; the redundant keeper’s house is now occupied by various local sporting clubs, including the SCUBA. club from nearby Muff Cove. In reality, the B.B.R.R. is an H.O. layout, 24’ long and a maximum of 5’ wide at each end to allow a reasonable radius curve to connect the "behind the scenes" train storage area to the scenic depot (station) side. Control is by DCC. that allows the locomotives to give voice, rather than being mime artists. Trackwork is Peco fine scale, the points being operated by Tortoise motors. Buildings are a mixture of Walther’s industrial and DPM. downtown kits. As is prototypical of American railroads, train speeds are not high and train lengths vary from 30 car freight through express passenger and local trains to single railcars.
