Three Bridges is a freelance USA based N gauge layout. Only 7'-6" long by
1'-9" wide it has storage sidings behind a low backscene and a single track
main line. The viewing side has a passing siding with a depot, a branch line
and a mine. The scenery is an experiment in lightweight rock castings from
latex moulds taken from real stone. At one end of the layout are the
eponymous three bridges, two timber trestles over a river and a girder
bridge, rail over rail.
Any connection with the name of a real station on the London to Brighton
main line is purely intentional; a little confusion adds to the fun! The two
baseboards are made from lightweight plywood. Visible trackwork is Peco
code 55, but the storage sidings and points are code 80 and the end curves
are 9" radius Set-Track. Points are operated by wire in tube and slide
switches that also set the frog polarity.
Control is by Gaugemaster through 5 section switches, so realistic train
movements are possible with two trains running at the same time under
separate control. Locomotives and stock are all from the States. Until I can
muster enough stock from one area to give a geographical location, anything
goes, (that goes). New York Central and Pennsylvania are winning. Buildings
are Walthers kits. The mine has been taken over by the Champion mining
corporation but the roof still bears the original family name, "Ware's Mine".
All scenic materials are from Set Scenes.
